Tooth-Colored Fillings
Whether you have a cavity that needs attention or your smile is riddled with dark, mercury amalgam fillings, as a cosmetic dentist, Dr. Harris can restore your teeth to a natural, white state. In the past, dentists repaired tooth decay by filling the cleaned site with durable amalgam, a substance that contains various metals, including trace amounts of mercury – which can harm some people. Modern dental products have given us a strong and attractive alternative, composite resin.
With composite fillings, Dr. Harris can tint the material to perfectly match the shade of your damaged tooth. After preparing the tooth by removing decay and bacteria, the doctor places a small amount of custom-tinted resin into the cavity. He then uses a soft, cool light to cure (harden) the composite resin. This takes mere minutes. Afterward, Dr. Harris will polish and shape the tooth to ensure that it fits well with your bite.
Composite fillings are strong, beautiful, and they contain no metal. However, if you prefer amalgam fillings and have had no adverse physical reaction to them in the past, the doctor will gladly place amalgams upon request.
